ON EDUCATION

At the end of last year, we claimed that you can learn how to trade in 8 lessons just by watching videos of 5 to 10 minutes. And it worked! More than 330 people have already been trained in trading from scratch, from registering on the exchange to withdrawing profits.

Why we blew up? Firstly, a trader is a trendy profession that where freedom, financial control, self-development and flexibility meet. Жизнь за биткоин – фильм был снят молодоженами в 2013 году, где они в течении 100 дней оплачивали все товары только биткоином. Фильм получился крутой и насыщенный. Спойлер…От голоду никто не умер!)

Крипто – этот фильм мне не зашел. События происходят в штате Техас, молодого инспектора по ценным бумагам переводят на новую работу. Там он замечает банду отмывателей денег и пытается с ней покончить.
Криптовалюта, как тема, занимает мало места в фильме. У меня на выпускном актерский состав и то лучше был…

А вот сериал “Мистер Робот“ очень даже ничего. Тема крипты переплетена с хакерскими штучками. Советую, отлично зайдет на выходные.

Len Sassaman has spent his life protecting personal data using cryptography as he was a developer of PGP and open source privacy technology, and studied P2P networks under the supervision of blockchain inventor David Chaum.

The death of Len Sassaman coincided with the disappearance of the world’s most famous cypherpunk figure, Satoshi Nakamoto. In May 2011, Satoshi sent his last message: “I’ve moved on to other things and I probably won’t show up in the future.” No further explanation. Satoshi left behind many unfinished features, fierce debates about his vision of the future of cryptocurrencies, and at that time $64 billion in bitcoin, which is still untouched.

Surely, in the end we will never know the truth, but do we really need it? Satoshi Nakamoto was primarily a symbol of the new era. “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” is a 1923 roman à clef that belongs to the top rated books on investing. Despite it being a fictionalized biography of one of the greatest speculators who ever lived, this book is an eye opener for everyone who wants to become a trader or anyone who is fascinated by trading.

The author of this timeless classic, Edwin Lefèvre, received training as a mining engineer before he became a journalist. He didn’t have any massive capital, but already at the age of 19 he tried to independently trade small amounts on the stock exchange. Years of observing the life and strategies of New York brokers resulted in the book titled “Wall Street Stories”. Edwin became popular overnight because as a writer he was much more successful than a trader.

Several magazine articles about the world’s first short trader, Jesse Livermore, eventually resulted in a fictional book, “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator”. (In the book, he is depicted as a key character under the name of Larry Livingston).

Jesse Livermore was indeed a unique speculator who, at the age of 15, was already trading using borrowed funds of the stock exchange in the amount of 100/1 sticking to his own strategies. Thus, in 10 years he earned $500,000. (let’s clarify something here: the events happening in the book took place between 1890-1935, and back then, half a million dollars was a huge fortune). Livermore made his money by day trading during the stock market crashes of World War I and the Great Depression. For this he received the nickname of “The Great Bear of Wall Street”.

The main value of the book is a detailed description of the psychology of a successful trader. After reading it, you will see a lot of similarity with modern times, as if it wasn’t written 100 years ago. Greed, fear, and overreliance on advisors will kill you faster than a few losing trades.

You will learn that trading is a game of singles against the crowd. The crowd will lose if you trust your gut and don’t succumb to the crowd instinct.

What helped Livermore/Livingston get rich? First of all, he was cautious and thought through the risks. In a situation where he had to make a choice between a very risky trade with a large income and a safe trade with a small income, he would go for the second option. This choice would give him a stable position, room for maneuver and minimal losses. While his fellow traders were earning and then dumping huge sums, he had more of a “Many a little makes a muckle” approach.

The thing is, he did not follow cautious tactics at first. It was preceded by his complete collapse as a trader, when Livermore lost his entire deposit on trading with leverage. That’s when he would come to the following understanding:

“There is nothing like losing all you have in the world for teaching you what not to do. And when you know what not to do in order not to lose money, you begin to learn what to do in order to win”.

As a result, he comes to the conclusion that the main thing in his work is to predict possible losses and maintain stability; the market lives according to laws that are far from human and resembles an uncontrollable element. You might have already noticed that whenever I talk about the crypto market I often suggest to stay on the safe side and not chase big profits.

My philosophy is quite simple:

It’s better to under profit than overshoot! (just getting less profit instead of dumping all money into the drain and undergoing extra loss!

As they say it’s better to make 1%, than to lose 10%.

This is what my risk management system is built on.

Of course, the way money loss is experienced is a subjective thing and can differ from trader to trader. In the crypto jungle you can get discouraged to trade in no time. And yet, it is absolutely necessary not to forget to set your stop loss and be aware of gambling addictions hidden deep within.

You can be a careful and rational trader, but still fall into the lure of the market manipulations of large players or into the trap of your own cognitive distortions.

How to prepare yourself to face a trading losses. A big No-no.

1. The worst of all possible options is to start panicking and try to win back in any way. The state of tilt always ends in a loss of control over the situation and, in the long run, a nervous breakdown.

2. Another, also unreasonable, option is to keep a poker face and tell everyone that your trading strategy is super fly, it just went a bit wrong but the process of making millions is in full swing. I’m pretty sure that staying stubborn and rejecting your own mistakes always leads to a deposit flushed down the toilet and a very unpleasant loss.

Don’t act mulish!

3. It’s absolutely thoughtless and careless to hold a position without fixing a loss. But the thing is it’s sort of a defensive reaction of the psyche: as long as the loss isn’t fixed, it seems to be non-existent. Even though the price is already rushing against you to knock you off your feet, you are still daydreaming and hoping for a reversal to happen. This “what if” state of mind is there and you hope to not lose anything that day. But it might as well be that “down the drain” type of day where you lose 30% instead of fixed 8%.

Act first to prevent your money going down the drain. Lead the game to not be devoured by it!

Facing a trading loss for real. A big Yes.

My friend, here’s a few rules to remember:

1. If your loss is bigger than expected, just enable a stop. From that moment on do something to distract yourself, whether it’s binge watching Breaking Bad or eating pizza with friends, anything will do. Close the trade and exhale.

2. Start the next day with a clean slate. Loss free. You continue trading, without looking back. All you need to do is to work only with your current deposit as if you have just deposited money on the exchange. That’s it! Nothing else matters!

3. Evaluate your work not in terms of current profit and loss, but in terms of the possible liquidity of assets. When closing the day, calculate the amount of deposit assets by market, as if you have no open positions. This will be your true result. This approach helps to look at things in a sober way, without falling into extremes in the form of euphoria or depression.

4. Don’t be fixated on the loss. The more you think about it, the less doors for potential earnings are gonna be open for you. Look for other options, analyze, stay tuned, and always keep your composure.

And last but not least – stay agile! Be free!
